Pokémon Go Fixes Google Account Security Issue: Follow Up

Earlier this week I reported on a potentially serious Pokémon Go security issue that Niantic, the game’s developer, was given full access to your Google account when the app was installed on iOS devices.

As suspected, this was an bug in the user registration process. Niantic has since fixed the problem so that their game now has limited access to your Google account information, mainly your name and email address.image

You will need to update the Pokémon Go app to version 1.0.1 or higher on your iPhone or iPad to fix the security and privacy permissions. You can do this by going to the App Store and clicking on the Updates button.

You can verify the Pokémon Go security permissions of your Google account via this link. I recommend that you take a minute to review the permissions of other apps on the Google app security page for anything unusual or unexpected.

Now get out there and catch some Pokémon!
